Formation of the League of Nations (Collective Security)
- Designed so that there would be world peace and all countries could make decisions together
- Doomed from the start with the exclusion of three crucial countries: Russia, USA and Germany
- Russia wasn't invited to join because they were a communist country and many people were scared of them
- Germany wasn't invited because they were the "losers" of WWI and were associated with bad decision making
- The United States weren't involved because they believed in isolationism, President Wilson couldn't convince the civilians or congress to join the League of Nations no matter how hard he tried
- Without these three nations, the League of Nations had no "teeth"
- The League of Nations is now called the United Nations
- Germany eventually joined from 1926 until 1933
- Russia joined in 1933
Additional Information:
- Woodrow Wilson traveled around the United States in hopes of changing the minds of Americans about joining the League of Nations but eventually became sick and had to stop. (He later died from the same illness)
