Franklin D. Roosevelt and the 100 Days
- Democratic president, longest serving American president (lasted 4 terms)
- Comes in at lowest point of the Great Depression, 13 million unemployed when he got elected
- In his first 100 days in office introduced many policies to help with the economy and employment
- Banks had to restore confidence to put money in banks (federal insurance)
- Introduces the New Deal
- In a wheelchair (infantile paralysis)
- Dies of a brain hemorrhage in 1945 before WWII finishes
- "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself"
THE NEW DEAL:
- Made work projects to be initiated within the first 100 days of his presidency
- Ex. Hoover Dam providing energy for many Americans, Interstate Highway system allowed faster movement of goods and military
- Deficit financing
- Following John Maynard Keynes economical theories (you have to spend money to make money)
